Bulletin #7
Canadian Committee for a neutral citation standard
Hello everyone,
Mrs. Lorna K. Rees-Potter, who was research director
of CLIC has gracefully agreed to let us post a CLIC paper dated
January 1988 on decision numbering, a topic we'll be dealing
with in section 3 of the working draft. She's also provided
technical background reports on several courts that were
intermediary results of work that led to the publication
in 1984 of "Communicating court information: towards a
Canadian court records handling system." Mrs. Potter-Rees
now teaches Library and information science at McGill
University in Montreal. The paper is on the web site under
"Document of interest".
Another paper that should prove useful is one I
wrote last week on separators and other things. To quote
its first paragraph :
"This document has been prepared to narrow down various
options the Committee will be discussing in its next phone
meeting. It hits on several points simultaneously as
separators are used with identifiers and it would be hard,
we found, to consider one without thinking of the other.
So the following goes into section 2.2.3, on separators,
of course, but also touches section 3.2, the tribunal
identifier, section 3.4, the paragraph numbers, section 4.3,
on chambers, subdivisions and judicial districts, section 4.5,
on various qualifiers of decisions and section 4.6,
on references to notes."
Finally, there's v.1.1 of the working draft that
should be the first item on the agenda Wednesday before we
proceed further. If any member of the Committee wants to put
something on the meeting agenda, please let me know.
The agenda will be e-mailed to you on Wednesday morning.
Good reading, all. We'll be talking to Committee
members the day after tomorrow, at 13h00, Montreal time.
Regards
Guy
