Lexum is looking for a director to join its board

Working at the intersection of technology and law, Lexum is looking for a director to join its board as the company begins to develop its next strategic cycle.

About Lexum

Lexum informatique juridique inc. (“Lexum”) develops the fastest and most acclaimed legal information tools. The company is at the very origin of the Free Access to Law Movement – an online publication model that allows users to consult legal material free of charge and has revolutionized the market for legal information products worldwide.

The company is well known for its impact on the Canadian legal industry, where it began operations in 1993 by working with the Supreme Court of Canada to publish Court decisions on the Internet. Since then, Lexum has had the opportunity to provide a wide range of consulting, design, development, hosting and support services to numerous North American legal institutions, including the Department of Justice of Canada, the Courts Administration Service (CAS) and Administrative Tribunals Support Service of Canada (SCDATA), the New Mexico Compilation Commission, and the Arkansas Courts, to name a few.

Lexum’s best-known achievement is undoubtedly the services it provides to the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII) for the design, development, and operation of the CanLII website: www.canlii.org.

Today, Lexum’s customers include public organizations and private entities operating in all kinds of environments and industries around the world. These include judicial institutions, legislatures, agencies, professional associations, trade unions, international organizations, private publishers, law firms, etc.

In 2022, the company earned recognition as one of the 50 Most Inspiring Workplaces in North America. The award is given by Inspiring Workplaces™ – an organization merging two initiatives: Employee Engagement Alliance and The Employee Engagement Awards. In 2022, Lexum also was the recipient of the Prix performance Québec – a high distinction awarded annually by the Premier of Québec to private companies and public organizations whose management and overall performance standout.

Governance

In 2018 Lexum was acquired by CanLII, a non-profit organization founded by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. Lexum’s executive leadership and the Lexum Board of Directors work in collaboration with the CanLII Board of Directors and the leadership team of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.

Profile

Lexum is looking for someone with experience in governance, who also has knowledge and interest in the legal domain and information technology.

Expertise in the dynamics of niche markets and B2B-type business development with, among others, government institutions, will be an advantage.

Lexum is proud to be a French-speaking workplace, even though our team is fully bilingual. Understanding and reading French will be an asset for interested candidates.

The future of Lexum

Going forward, Lexum’s focus remains on (1) maintaining staff engagement through a multitude of measures aimed at employee well-being and professional satisfaction and growth, (2) further developing its client base in legal and neighbouring segments, (3) excellence in product delivery and (4) strengthening its status as a technology leader in the legal domain.
