1- Next Meeting

At least one additional meeting will be needed to finish reviewing the draft on Uniform Case Naming Guidelines. It is scheduled to take place on June 5, 2006 at 13:00 EDT.

2- Review of the draft on Uniform Case Naming Guidelines

"1.3 Font Style"

With regards to the decision on periods that was postponed until this meeting; the majority of the Committee votes to keep the rule as it is. The main argument was that omitting the period was not necessary and we should keep in line with how things have traditionally been done.

"2.2 Organization"

No comments are given on this particular section.

"2.2.1 Omitted Terms"

The discussion focuses mostly on whether or not to include former names, trade names as well as alias to the name of the organization. The Committee was divided on this issue, but after a vote, it is decided that the former names, trade names and aliases should be added between parentheses, after the name of the organization.

"2.2.2 Abbreviated Terms"

The majority of the Committee is of the opinion that abbreviations for words such as "Limited" or "Incorporated" should not be used. This way of doing things would leave it up to the publishers to follow the established rules with regards to abbreviations.

"2.2.3 Worker's Union"

Following Ruth's suggestions on this section, the Committee wishes to standardize the position of the "Local" number". Among the suggested options, a majority of the members favors the following structure:

The final version of the document will add a variety of examples that will demonstrate how the rule is implemented.

"2.2.4 Municipality or Local Community"

It was pointed out by Frédéric that this rule was intended for municipalities only. It does not apply to the name of municipal bodies and other organizations which merely contain the name of a municipality without being a municipality or a local community in and of itself.

Ruth suggests that the Committee should establish a list of municipality names on which court personnel could rely to standardize those names. Before the next meeting, Ruth along with Rick will try to make a list showing how this could be done.

The discussion on the remaining issues will be addressed at the next conference call which will take place on June 5, 2006 at 13h00 EDT.

The meeting ended at 14:04.
