Lexum is pleased to announce that consolidated legislation from New Brunswick, Northwest Territories, and Newfoundland and Labrador have been automatically summarized using AI and are now available on the CanLII website. The content enrichment for these provinces and territories has grown significantly, and we would like to thank their respective Law Foundations for their continuous support.
Regarding the consolidated statutes and regulations, the project has achieved almost complete coverage, with the following impressive numbers of enriched documents:
- New Brunswick: Around 3,000 legislative summaries (93.5% of NB consolidated statutes and regulations) in English and French have been generated. Approximately 200 documents weren’t summarized, mainly because they were too short.
- Newfoundland and Labrador: About 2,500 legislative summaries have been generated (86% of NL consolidated statutes and regulations). Approximately 400 documents weren’t summarized, mainly because they were too short.
- Northwest Territories: Around 2,200 legislative summaries have been generated (99% of NT consolidated statutes and regulations). Only 18 documents weren’t summarized, mainly because they were too long.
New Brunswick: Decisions Case Analysis Are Now Accessible in Both Official Languages
In addition to the detailed summaries already available in their original language, unilingual decisions from New Brunswick have now been automatically summarized into the second official language.
These additional summaries are not translations, either of the decision or of the initial summaries. The original decisions are directly summarized into the second language. It does not mean exactly matching the pre-existing summaries but instead providing an independent take based on the original language. You will also find the links at the end of each paragraph referring to the original document. Each summary is available under the “AI analysis” tab under the corresponding linguistic version of the CanLII website.

These summaries are structured as follows: Facts, Procedural History, Parties’ Submissions, Legal Issues, Disposition, and Reasons. Users are invited to provide feedback through a webform or a 7-minutes survey.
To date, approximately 23,200 AI-powered summaries in the alternative language have been created. The completion rate is around 95%. Approximately 1,180 documents weren’t summarized, mainly because their corresponding document was too short or because the content produced was deemed invalid for various reasons.
This makes detailed AI-powered case analysis of decisions from New Brunswick available in both official languages on the CanLII website. Moving forward, detailed summaries of New Brunswick decisions will be automatically generated in both English and French as they are published on the website.
We would like to thank again the Law Foundations of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and the Northwest Territories for supporting this initiative.
