User Agreement

  1. Every person who accesses the Lexum websites consents, as a User, to the terms of use stated in the present document and to the fact that Lexum reserves the right to amend these terms from time to time.

Privacy Protection

  1. Lexum abides by Canadian and international standards with regard to user privacy protection. Lexum does not collect personal information about Users without their consent, and has set up means to keep personal information confidential. The Lexum websites’ management of personal information is described more fully on the Privacy Policy page.

Reproduction and Copyright

  1. Lexum, reserve the intellectual property rights pertaining to the Lexum websites’ graphic, navigation and search tool design.
  2. Subject to the following paragraph and the below conditions pertaining to prohibited use, legal materials published on the Lexum websites, such as legislation, regulations and decisions, including editorial enhancements inserted into the documents by Lexum, such as hyperlinks and information in headers and footers, can be copied, printed and used by Users free of charge and without any other authorization from Lexum, provided that Lexum is identified as the source of the document.
  3. Use of legal materials published by Lexum can be subject to additional conditions set by courts and government bodies claiming intellectual property rights relating to the documents. Lexum makes an effort to indicate the existence of additional conditions on the pages of the relevant databases, but Users remain responsible for checking whether the intended use of the documents is authorized.

Prohibited Uses

  1. Notwithstanding the reproduction rights granted in the preceding section, the following uses of Lexum’s websites are prohibited unless the Lexum Editor has provided prior written consent:
  2. Incorporating published documents into another website but masking their origin or source through framing, re-use of search processes, or any other means of creating confusion and misrepresenting the fact that the documents come from one of the Lexum websites;
    1. External indexing of published documents by Web robots when such use is not authorized by the instructions in the robots exclusion file at <http://www.lexum.com/robots.txt> or in a META tag in the HTML code of a published document, in compliance with the Robots Exclusion Protocol;
    2. Use of the Lexum websites’ resources and services via automated mechanisms, in particular for bulk downloading of documents.
  3. Lexum reserves the right to block, at its discretion and without prior notice, any User from accessing its websites if the User misuses the website or uses it for illegal purposes.

Disclaimer of Warranty

  1. Lexum puts considerable effort into maintaining its websites and controlling the quality of the databases and documents it publishes so as to provide a reliable source of legal information. However, Lexum and the Lexum websites’ partners provide no warranty and make no claims as to the reliability, accuracy or integrity of the websites’ content or functioning.

Disclaimer of Liability

  1. The documents published on the Lexum websites have been collected and prepared for Users’ convenience, and uniquely for informative purposes; they are in no way legal advice. Despite the care taken in preparing and maintaining its websites, Lexum and their employees, managers and other officers can in no way be held responsible for damages caused directly or indirectly by use of the Lexum websites or by its non-availability.

Applicable Law

  1. Use of the Lexum websites is governed by the federal and provincial legislation in force in the Province of Quebec, Canada. Any legal action against Lexum with regards to Lexum websites use shall be brought before the courts of the District of Montreal in the Province of Quebec.
